19 Things I Learned by Age 19

19 Things I Learned by Age 19

As I turned 19, a few months ago, I wanted to share a few lessons that I have learned to date. To be honest, I might have learned more than what a typical 19-year-old boy would be able to. The things that I learned include a broad range of lessons like – life lessons, career, and a lot more that can’t be listed here.

Not to forget, I started Life Hacks with those lessons, and I’ll be sharing some of them here. I wish I knew these things a lot earlier. Anyways, sharing them now will make sure that someone will be benefited from them at some point in time.

So, here are 19 things I learned after turning 19.

19 Things I Learned by Age 19

#1 Not everyone will stay in your life.

When I was a kid, I thought that everyone would be with me until the end. As I grew older, things changed. Many left the endless journey, for different reasons.

No matter how much they promise to stay close; time and circumstances will bound you to forget about them. You need to be strong at heart and deal with it.

#2 If you are good at something, people will try to exploit it.

You will meet a lot of new people who will attempt to act as if they are your Best Friends Forever just to know how you are you able to do certain things. Tell them your secrets and Boom! They won’t be around. Remember not to let out too much information about yourself. (Exceptions are always there)

#3 People appear different; act differently

For me, it is much better to have five genuine people in your friend circle than to have 100’s of fake people.

#4 Life is a Bitch

A bitch that will try to bring you down as much as it can. But, don’t lose hope. A lot of good and bad things will happen to you once you reach a certain age but deal with it like a soldier. Remember, “If you’re going through hell, keep going.” – Winston Churchill. Whatever is happening to you right now, is just preparing you for the future.

#5 Focus on career first

It is okay to fall in love but make sure you don’t get too caught up in relationships. Relationships are great, but they will stop you from achieving great things in life because you will be too lost in your own world. Get out of this shit as soon as possible. Your 20’s is the time when you either flourish or kill your success.

#6 Money is not everything, but it is important

Living life with few budget bucks makes it miserable. In today’s world, if you get a chance to choose between respect and money… Always go with “Money.” When you have money, Respect will come naturally.

#7 You won’t get everything you wish for

Yes, you heard it right, don’t expect that you will be getting everything you want from life. Life has a very complicated way of working out, and it doesn’t give you something you don’t deserve. So, if you don’t get something that you wished… Don’t cry for it, move ahead with time. Maybe you will get something better. However, it doesn’t mean that you won’t try your best to get it; sometimes you need to work very hard to get what you want.

#8 Enjoy life to the fullest

You have got just one life, and that too is passing by every minute. Try to live life to fullest, so that you don’t regret the things you didn’t do when you grow old. Don’t care about others because, in the end, you need to impress only one person in life – YOU!

#9 Don’t leave any stone unturned

As said above, don’t leave any stone unturned in life. Everything happens for a reason, and they all have one common goal – to teach you lessons.

Got an offer that you aren’t interested in? Don’t just say, “NO,” try it at least once and then decide based on your experience. Most people fall in love with things, after trying them once. That’s probably the reason showrooms offer hands-on experience before making you purchase gadgets and vehicles.

#10 All that glitters is not gold

In life, you will meet a lot of new people who will act as if they are the real gems in your life, but trust me, once you get into some trouble you will find these gems nowhere around you.

Talking about work, while some projects might seem like a life changer, they are not. You need to be very smart while choosing work-related projects.

#11 Don’t expect too much

Expectations hurt! The more you expect, the more you will find that things aren’t working the way they should be. Just continue to work with fewer expectations, and you will be much happier in life.

#12 You still need your parents

You feel like you are grown up, but you aren’t. You will still need your parents to support you for what you want in life. Your parents need to be there to help you throughout your college life and of course, your entire life.

#13 Never give up on your dream

Even if it seems like an impossible task, you should never give up on it. Nothing is impossible, and you never know when the odds turn on your side and let you accomplish it.

Killing your dream is nothing less than committing suicide. – Akshay Sharma

#14 The people you surround yourself with will influence your Future

Wisely chose the people you stay with. When you surround yourself with successful people, you allow the positive energy to flow through you. When you have a positive mindset, everything positive happens to you. There’s no doubt about it!

#15 Smile, even when you are feeling Low

You know what? Nobody is going to give a damn about how you feel. You are happy, cool! You are sad, cool! Why should they care about it? Some people care, but not all of them will be doing so. Therefore, have a smile on your face, even if you are on your greatest grief. You know what? You smile will make your enemies go crazy.

#16 Never be too obsessed with anything

It won’t help you a bit. Being obsessed with anything will make you sick and depressed in life. “An over-indulgence of anything, even something as pure as water, can intoxicate.”

#17 Do not rest

Rest makes you rust. Once you get into the habit of resting, you will keep on procrastinating.

#18 Don’t shy away from giving compliments

Compliments don’t cost you anything, and, therefore, you should offer them as you see someone doing good.

Your compliments will motivate him/her to do better next time. Isn’t that great?
