“I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.” – F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Everyone is good at something in their life, but not everyone is aware of such fact.

When we were young, we wanted to be doctors, pilots, actors, engineers, and whatnot. But we had no idea what did we actually love.

You might dream to do a certain thing or to become something out of astonishment, only when you reach it; you find out it’s not something you like.

Do What You Love? Or, Love What You Do?

Do what you know, or do what you love?

Some would advise you to observe the need for the current market, generation, and society. Pick the most career path that appeals to you which can fit your skills or at least requires some potentials within your capabilities. Or even worse, they’d advise you to build your skills upon the needs and the demands of the market and business owners.

Some would advise you to not follow your passion, as passion changes over time. You may also discover that you are not that good at something you’re passionate about.

But let me tell you;

Pros of choosing to do what you love:

  • Passion brings commitment.
  • Passion changes frightening responsibilities into fun challenges.
  • The more you invest time and effort into doing something you love, your passion slightly grows and so does your skills.
  • Doing what you love brings professional gratification, and what better way to achieve it other than doing what you really want to do. Your interest in a job directly spells your devotion and dedication towards it

Don’t be afraid of doing something that you enjoy. Be afraid of doing something that does not bring meaning into your life.

Be afraid of doing something that sucks your happy spirit only to let it vanish within thin air.

Loving what you do” requires sacrificing the things you love.

Being a really good artist is better than being a shitty programmer. Right?

Do What You Love? Or, Love What You Do?

There are golden rules to be able to start doing what you love

If you’re good at being a manager, developer, marketer, or whatever you’re good at; and choose to focus on how to do what you love even though you don’t have a plan, That’s a strategy to fail. And in that case, when you can’t answer your dreams answer your calling.

Sit down and evaluate yourself, make a list of your skills and qualities. You’ll notice that all this happened because of a particular good quality you possessed. Being unsatisfied with what you’re doing is never a good way to find out what you’re good at.

So, there’s not an actual right answer to this question.

Some are capable of adapting to doing something they’re good at, but not actually enjoying it; others just cannot stand it.

Some are in the search of whatever they enjoy doing; others are just doing it.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Would you still be doing what I’m doing if the money was out of the equation?
  2. What are the things that I’m most passionate about?
  3. What are the things that I do not like?
  4. What do I want to have accomplished in 10 years?

Do What You Love? Or, Love What You Do?

As for the main question in the title,

The right answer depends on the scenario, the scenario depends on your thinking patterns and coping with new opportunities, whether to accept them or decline. Choose wisely.

And remember, if you don’t know whether to do what you love or what you’re good at.

At least figure out what you do not want to do or even go near to. And who knows, if you cannot do what you love, you might as well be loving what you’re doing in the process of loving what you do.
